For successful application of your new Indigo Decals, good surface preparation is very important. Start by removing any existing decals (a little heat from a hair dryer or heat gun will make this easier). If you are fitting to old plastics, smooth any scrapes or scratches with a fine grade sandpaper as best you can.
Finally, ALL plastics (old or new) will need to be thoroughly cleaned and degreased using a surface preparation cleaner. A final wipe with a lint free cloth to ensure any dust is removed and you are ready to start…
Be sure you have plenty of time and are in a calm mood before attempting to install! If you rush you will be disappointed – take your time and tackle the application methodically.
Start by fully familiarising yourself with all panels and corresponding decals. Take into account the shape and contour of each panel as the graphic will need ‘pulling’ into position to achieve a perfect fit.
Apply a short burst of heat from a hair dryer (5 seconds) to make the decal a little more ply-able. Be very careful not to overheat as this will cause it to distort. Begin by peeling back a small area of the backing paper to reveal the adhesive. Tear off the backing paper and carefully align the decal in the correct position on the panel.
A little at a time, rub gently with your finger or thumb to ensure no air bubbles remain. Once you are happy with the application and position, remove a little more backing paper and continue to apply. You can also use a little more heat as and when required. Once you decal is fully applied go around the edge with a little heat again and rub firmly to ensure good adhesion.
Your graphics will take 24 hours for the adhesive to fully bond so it is strongly recommended you do not ride during this time. Check regularly during this period in case any edges have lifted, and if so apply a little heat and pressure to ensure full adhesion.
Finally, a good clean with a suitable cleaner and you are ready to go!
Our decals have a thin protective film on top of the laminate to protect your decals whilst you are fitting them.
We would recommend removing this film upon completion of fitting.
